Brian’s Sri Lanka Challenge Day 6: Uda Walawe to Galle (approx. 89km)
This year my annual charity bike challenge takes me to Sri Lanka. It will be a hard challenge with 457km of riding and numerous climbs over 6 days.
I am raising funds for The Openwork Partnership Foundation, who give grants to small local charities supported by the many members of the Openwork family, and Holding on letting Go, who give bereavement advice to children in KENT and SE London.
Please, please, please, help with a donation, however big or small, as anything you give will be used for these amazing causes. https://bit.ly/sponsorbriandownton2024
DAY 6 Sat 16 Nov – Uda Walawe to Galle (approx. 89km)
Today was our last day in the saddle!
Cycling from our hotel, we got a feel for everyday life in Sri Lanka as we rode through small towns and villages.
Unfortunately, today was not what we expected. There were a couple of big crashes. One of the crashes was me, and the other was our lead guide, Saranga. Thankfully, nothing was broken.
We reached the finish line at lunchtime. Everyone was there, including me and Saranga, who painfully finished the day with a refreshing celebration beer and a delicious lunch.
From there, we got a coach transfer to the coast. We spent a lovely afternoon around the pool, in the sun, and enjoyed an incredible sunset.
Back at the hotel, we spent time in the pool and had our celebration dinner. The perfect way to end our Charity Challenge expedition.
Many thanks for following this year’s challenge. If you sponsored me, thank you, me and the charities are incredibly grateful.
Brian
